Angelina Jolie may be the unofficial poster girl for fashion’s rich mom aesthetic.
The internet trend is defined by a style of dressing that conveys wealth, elegance and sophistication — three things that Jolie, 49, has in spades.
The latest proof came on Monday, November 11, when Jolie stepped out in New York City for a screening of her forthcoming film Maria at the DGA Theater. She belted into her signature khaki trench, which was cinched at the waist, and the moment immediately recalled the hallmarks of a rich mom wardrobe with its sharp tailoring, impeccable craftsmanship and classic neutral hue.
Never mind what Jolie’s kids say about her go-to coat, which as the actor described to WSJ. Magazine last year. “I’ve been a mom, and I’ve fully absorbed that into who I am,” Jolie said, speaking of why she chooses to dress the way she does. “My daughter jokes that I wear too many trench coats. It’s just like a hiding thing.”

While the trench may be her go-to uniform, there was no hiding the fact that even beyond her beloved outerwear, Jolie has rich mom style down to a science. Case in point: Layered underneath her jacket was a sumptuous little black velvet dress, which skimmed just above her ankles.
She added extra polish with gleaming Christian Louboutin pointed-toe pumps and diamond stud earrings. A hallmark of rich mom style is luxury accessories that are well worth investing in. While all could be considered wardrobe heroes, it was her trench coat, more than anything, that was woven with the power-dressing brand of energy that defines the trend.
Her glam was also several stylish steps above quiet luxury, thanks to perfectly polished French manicured nails and smooth, sleek tresses, which appeared to have been from a fresh blowout.
In the same interview, Jolie added that she doesn’t necessarily consider herself a fashion person (“I’ve never been to a fashion show or Met Ball my entire life”), and yet, she feels extremely passionate about her own label, Atelier Jolie, which she launched to support responsibly made fashion.
Even though her latest look may be considered a safe choice, there’s no denying the fact that it’s a responsible (and chic) addition to anyone’s fall wardrobe, rich moms included.
