Drew Scott's Daughter, 5 Months, Thinks His Twin Jonathan Is 'A Mirror'

Now that Drew Scott’s children are getting older, they no longer confuse him for twin Jonathan Scott.

“At first, we think [my daughter] just thought this was, like, me [and] ‘Why did Dad shave?’” Drew, 46, exclusively told Us Weekly on Monday, November 11, while promoting his and Jonathan’s new series Don’t Hate Your House with the Property Brothers. “She would have this look where she’s like, ‘Yeah, [I’m] trying to figure out where the beard went.’ But maybe now she thinks it’s the mirror.”

Along with Piper, 5 months, Drew shares son Parker, 2, with wife Linda Phan. The toddler also doesn’t get confused by his dad’s twin.

“Parker has known for a long time that this is Uncle Jonathan, and the moment he sees him, he runs over laughing and giggling,” Drew recalled. “Jonathan doesn’t have to do anything, just laughs and giggles.”

Jonathan, 46, “just loves” his bond with Parker.

“Even if I’m sitting at breakfast with him, Parker sits across the table every minute or two,” Jonathan said. “He’ll just randomly say through the whole breakfast, ‘Hi, Uncle Jonathan.’ Dude’s my man [and we’re] on the same wavelength. I got to work that relationship with my niece.”

Drew can also see his son’s special bond with his uncle.

“He’s the magician. He’s really good with magic,” Drew added. “But to Parker, I’m an amazing magician right now. He thinks I’m awesome, but I can’t impress your kids the same way; they’ll call me out as a fake.”

Jonathan is a stepfather figure to his fiancée, Zooey Deschanel’s two children from a past relationship. (Deschanel, 44, and ex-husband Jacob Pechenik share daughter Elsie Otter, 9, and son Charlie Wolf, 7.)

While Parker is especially close to Jonathan, it took more time for him to bond with Piper.

“It was a journey. At first, he was like, ‘Who’s stealing my spotlight?’ And then he said, it was almost like he was a little afraid of her,” Drew recalled. “He thought she was going to jump out and bite him or something, and then he started to get calm with her. Then, he started doing this thing where he was like, ‘Parker want to touch Piper.’ So we’re like, ‘OK,’ bring him close. He is like, ‘Oh. Then, he goes whack in her face and we’re like, ‘Don’t hit your sister!’”

Now, Parker is “so good” with his baby sibling.

“He’ll just be playing and he’ll just stop. He’ll run over to her, give her a hug and a kiss and say, ‘Love you, Piper,’ and then go back to what he does,” Drew gushed.

Having two young kids — or as Jonathan called it, “baby brain” — affected Drew while they filmed their new HGTV series Don’t Hate Your House with the Property Brothers.

“Our goal was to help people love their home,” Jonathan told Us. “Your home should work hard for you to make life easier and you see the raw side of people flipping out and losing their minds, but you also see these beautiful renovations in the end.”

The last two episodes of the season even take Drew and Jonathan to their parents’ house.

“They moved down from the Rocky Mountains at their dream home up in Banff, Canada and they loved it, but they want to be by the grandkids,” Drew said. “And so coming down here, we had to get it right. We found this century-old, Spanish-style home in Santa Monica, completely transformed it to make it work for them.”

He teased, “Our dad’s 90 [years old] and we need to have a place where they could age in [peace] and make it safe for them and it was amazing. But man, our mom had a long wishlist.”

Don’t Hate Your House With the Property Brothers airs on HGTV Wednesdays at 9 p.m. ET.
