Katie Holmes Embraces One of Fashion s Most Controversial Shoe Trends 0184Katie Holmes.

Katie Holmes can wear just about anything and her legions of fans will follow her lead.

But her latest sartorial endorsement may divide even the most daring of fashion risk takers. When she stepped out in New York on Wednesday, November 13, she made a case for one of the most controversial shoe trends of the season: the square-toed menswear-inspired loafer.

The Acne Studios design featured a puckered trim and a slight block heel, however it was the angular toe that stood out. While some have dubbed the controversial silhouette “so-bad-it’s-good fashion,” or just another “sleazy-chic” wardrobe staple making a comeback, the fact that Holmes, 45, cosigned the look is perhaps the most compelling argument to date.

The Dawson’s Creek alum leaned into the kitschy thrift store vibe with the rest of her ensemble, too – most notably, her Marfa Stance jacket. The limited-edition patchwork bomber was ultra-oversized and didn’t come up short on practicality. Not only is it water repellent, it’s also reversible and can be flipped inside out to reveal a quilted finish.

Holmes continued to turn up the volume with her borrowed-from-the-guys denim, which felt fitting considering the wide-leg look favored as of late. The actor teamed it with a cozy white turtleneck that had an early-2000s feel with the sleeves worn long and loose.

She didn’t hold back on going big with the rest of her accessories, either, toting a gargantuan tan leather carrier that would certainly be roomy enough to fit a change of shoes or otherwise.

Indeed, fans of pointy or round-toe shoes — which are by and large the norm — may shudder at the thought of embracing such a divisive silhouette. However, as Holmes demonstrated, when styled with the right off-duty look, they can have substantial, if not sleek, new appeal.
