Penn State University Police is looking into an incident involving Jason Kelce and an unidentified college football fan at the school, Us Weekly can confirm.
A police spokesperson told Us on Monday, November 4, that the department is investigating after Kelce, 46, was seen slamming a heckler’s phone to the ground outside Beaver Stadium.
“University Police and Public Safety is the investigating agency for this incident and the process is ongoing,” PSU Police told Us in a statement.
The department’s crime log listed criminal mischief and disorderly conduct as potential violations, Penn State University’s hometown newspaper Centre Daily Times reported. It was not immediately clear if the fan reported the incident to police.
Philly Radio Host Calls Out Jason Kelce for Smashing Heckler's Phone
Us Weekly has reached out to Kelce’s rep for comment and hasn’t heard back. While participating in ESPN’s coverage of Monday Night Football as an analyst, the former Philadelphia Eagles player addressed the controversy.
“I’m not happy with anything that took place,” Kelce said on Monday evening “I’m not proud of it. In a heated moment, I chose to greet hate with hate and I just don’t think that that’s a productive thing. I really don’t. I don’t think that it leads to discourse and it’s the right way to go about things. In that moment, I fell down to a level that I shouldn’t have.”
After appearing on ESPN’s College GameDay on Saturday, November 2, Kelce was spotted grabbing and throwing a heckler’s phone on the ground after hearing an offensive homophobic slur about his brother, Travis Kelce.
The incident happened before Penn State’s football showdown against Ohio State.
In a video obtained by TMZ, Jason can be seen and heard using the same homophobic slur, asking, “Who’s the f—– now? Who’s the f—– now? Who’s the f—– now?” after being confronted by a person getting in the former NFL player’s face and asking, “How does it feel that your brother is a f—– for dating Taylor Swift?”
Travis, 35, and the Grammy-winning singer were first linked in July 2023 when the Kansas City Chiefs tight end said he attempted to ask Swift out after attending her Eras Tour.
Two months later, Swift attended her first Kansas City Chiefs game in Travis’ private suite.
Relationships aside, Penn State football coach James Franklin was asked about the viral incident with Jason and a fan after his team lost to Ohio State. In response to the viral incident, Franklin, 52, said he wasn’t “very proud” of it.
Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s Relationship Timeline
“Jason Kelce was coming to State College [Pennsylvania], I wanted him to have a wonderful experience,” he told reporters on Monday. “I didn’t get a chance to meet him or see him. I saw something that I wasn’t very, very proud of. I wish that didn’t happen. But there’s also, in 2024, I love that that person, there was a consequence to his actions.”
Neither Kelce nor the unidentified college football fan have been charged with a crime.
