Taylor Swift has a special role in the lives of Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively’s children.
“She’s the godparent to my daughters,” Reynolds, 48, confirmed in a video interview with Deadline on Wednesday, November 13, referring to his and Lively’s three eldest kids — James, 9, Inez, 8, and Betty, 5. The couple also share their son, Olin, who was born in February 2023.
Swift revealed her godparent status in a hilarious way earlier this summer while praising Reynolds’ movie Deadpool & Wolverine. “Over the past few years I have watched one of my best friends on this planet pour every bit of his heart, soul, sweat, time energy, jokes, pain, joy, rebellion, darkness, and magic into this film,” she wrote via her Instagram Story in July. “He’s created the best work of his life, and this film feels like an actual joy portal, a wild escape from reality, and an abs sandwich. I don’t know how he did it.”
While the kind words were seemingly directed at Reynolds, Swift, 34, flipped the script by saying she was talking about his costar Hugh Jackman. “But that’s that just Hugh for you!” she joked. “Shout out to Wade Wilson, aka my godkids’ sperm donor!”

The message earned high praise from Lively, 37, who reposted it via her own Instagram Story. “Thank you @taylorswift for honoring my guy(s),” she wrote at the time. “I couldn’t have said it better myself. Which is unsurprising given that I have 14 less grammys and not a single sold out stadium world tour.”
On Wednesday, Reynolds joked that he needs Swift’s post “on my gravestone” before sharing his appreciation for her kind words. “That was very sweet of [her],” he said. “Not just sweet — you could probably quantify a box office based on Taylor just doing something like that. I mean, it’s crazy.” (Deadpool & Wolverine, which hit theaters in July, went on to make over $1.3 billion at the global box office, per Forbes.)
Swifties are familiar with the singer’s close connection with Reynolds and Lively’s daughters. James’s voice can be heard at the beginning of Swift’s Reputation track “Gorgeous,” and all three girls’ names were famously featured in the lyrics of the Folklore song “Betty.”
Reynolds and Lively have attended several of Swift’s Eras Tour concerts with their daughters since the tour kicked off in March 2023. Swift gave the young ones a special shout-out during a Philadelphia show in May. While introducing the song “Betty,” she said, “There are a few of the characters [in ‘Betty’] that I actually, fun fact, named after real people in my life who I love more than anything. And their names are James, Inez and Betty.”

After attending two out of Swift’s three New Orleans tour shows, Reynolds called the concerts “one of the best things I’ve seen/heard/felt” in a heartfelt Instagram post. “The main reason I’ll never forget this show is because it brings people together in so many ways. And in 2024, (where that feeling is scarce as hell) it’s a special and incredibly rare thing,” he captioned pics from the performances.
He continued: “I don’t understand the unimaginable work, care, talent and discipline @taylorswift generates to create an experience like this because I’m not a scientist. It’s an athletic event and a collective cultural phenomenon. It’s gigantic but intimate. The only bummer is she can’t be in the audience to experience what everyone else sees and feels. To watch herself up there is something I wish she could know. But that isn’t physically possible and even if it were, you can’t just get tickets last minute.”
Swift will conclude her record-breaking Eras Tour in Toronto on December 8.
