Selena Gomez Claps Back at Trolls Who Criticized Her Body: ‘Makes Me Sick’

Selena Gomez Claps Back at Body Shamers

Selena Gomez is over hearing comments about her body.

Gomez, 32, clapped back at internet trolls via TikTok on Sunday, November 3, after attending a Los Angeles premiere of her new film, Emilia Pérez, on October 29. In the since-deleted video, a social media user pointed out that Gomez appeared to be hiding her stomach with her hand as she rocked a fitted black Carolina Herrera dress with a thigh-high slit.

Fans assumed that Gomez was covering up intentionally, after her body was criticized one day prior at the Wizards Beyond Waverly Place premiere on October 28.

“This makes me sick,” she commented on the TikTok, per Elle. “I have SEBO [sic] in my small intestine. It flares up. I don’t care that I don’t look like a stick figure. I don’t have that body. End of story. No, I am NOT a victim. I’m just human.” (SIBO is a bacterial overgrowth that can cause bloating and abdominal pain.)

For glam, Gomez donned a full beat with the help of makeup artist Jenna Nicole, who created a dewy base before layering blush and bronzer on Gomez’s cheeks. She topped off the look with manicured eyebrows, glossy nude lips, winged eyeliner and wispy eyelashes.

This isn’t the first time Gomez has shut down body-shamers. In 2018, she took to Instagram to share a clip of her and her friends enjoying a boat ride as she wore a bikini.

“The beauty myth — an obsession with physical perfection that traps modern women in an endless cycle of hopelessness, self consciousness, and self-hatred as she tries to fulfill society’s impossible definition of flawless beauty,” Gomez captioned the post. “I chose to take care of myself because I want to, not to prove anything to anyone.”
