At 78 years old, Susan Sarandon has dated partners who are both older and younger than she is.
“There are different people who are, you know, younger but have lived a very full life that are more mature, more interesting,” Sarandon, 78, told The Sunday Times in a profile published on Sunday, November 10. “It’s very hard to find a much older guy who’s still curious and not just trying to hold on to things the way they were.”
The legendary actress is currently single, stressing to the outlet that she is “unattached” and living solo in an apartment with a trio of pet cats.
“[It] is kind of Grey Gardens-adjacent,” Sarandon joked.

Susan was previously married to David Sarandon, taking his last name, before they divorced in 1979. She later dated Franco Amurri, with whom she shares daughter Eva, 39. Susan went on to welcome sons Jack, 35, and Miles, 32, with former partner Tim Robbins.
“I still run into people who were devastated when we broke up. I feel so bad for them,” Susan said, noting she remains friendly with 66-year-old Robbins. “You have kids, you don’t have any choice.”
After Susan and Robbins amicably called it quits in 2009, she’s been candid about what she’s looking for in a new partner regardless of age or gender.
“It has to be somebody who has curiosity, a sense of humor, intelligence and appetite for life,” Susan explained to the British newspaper. “So, God bless you, if you manage to find somebody who fulfills any of those things, whether they’re younger, whether they’re older, whether they’re female or male, whether they’re gender-fluid, whatever. Those are just details.”

She continued, “I think the big thing is finding someone with an open heart and open mind who’s still curious.”
The Gutter star, however, hasn’t wavered on her decision to keep ex-husband David’s last name.
“He was a very kind man and he kept me alive, you know, so I’m happy to have that name,” she stressed to The Times, noting her only regret comes from sticking with her first moniker. “Sigourney Weaver, Tuesday Weld and Stockard Channing all started out ‘Susans’ and they had the sense to change that name and I’m stuck with Susan. It’s kind of nice to do a rechristening as you start to realize who you are.”
In the meantime, Susan is still acting but hasn’t ruled out an onscreen reunion with Robbins.
“If he brings me something I like, yeah,” she admitted. “Imagine if people in Hollywood didn’t work with the people they slept with.”
