Tyla takes fashion advice from the best.
The 22-year-old singer slayed in a blue vintage Roberto Cavalli gown at the 2024 MTV Europe Music Awards in Manchester, England, on Sunday, November 10. Her archival dress, once worn by the late singer Aaliyah, featured a blue-and-black animal printed body, a soft cowl neckline, spaghetti straps and a thigh-high slit lined with fur.
Tyla added even more edge to her ensemble with strappy black crocodile print boots. For a glamourous good measure, she accessorized with a diamond choker, a silver bangle, and chrome hoop earrings.
Tyla complemented her dramatic getup with a full beat including filled-in eyebrows, rosy cheeks and glossy lined lips. Her eye makeup was complete with a warm brown shadow blended into her crease with a pearly shade strategically swept across her lid. Tyla topped off her look with long cat-eye lashes. Her bronde hair was parted to the side and styled in a half-up coif.

As the “Water” singer won the award for Best R&B, she gushed about Aaliyah, who died at age 22 in 2001, in her speech.
“Thank you guys so much,” she said. “I know it’s just so hard to categorize my music; I mix so many different genres into one but R&B is a huge influence on my music. Especially Aaliyah.”
She continued her praise, saying, “She is like one of my idols, so the fact that I am even winning this in her dress is like…” Tyla began to tear up before leaving the stage.

Aaliyah originally donned a neon yellow version of the design at the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards. At the time, she let the dress speak for itself, accessorizing with only a dainty ring and stud earrings.
Aaliyah wore her brunette hair down and straightened. She sported black strappy heels and soft eyeshadow.
